The government is prioritizing local products over imports through innovations to spur economic growth, according to Cabinet Secretary for Industrialization, Trade, and Investment, Rebecca Miano.
Speaking at the 6th Sustainable Innovations Conference at Zetech University’s Mangu Campus in Juja, Miano emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting new innovators and researchers by providing tools, equipment, and creating business linkages and networks.
Miano highlighted the significance of creating a favorable environment for investors and enhancing the capacity of local industries to adopt and scale up innovations. She stressed the importance of equipping young people with skills in new technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) to achieve self-reliance.
Zetech University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alice Njuguna, echoed Miano’s sentiments, highlighting the university’s initiatives to financially support new innovators and facilitate market access for their innovations. She emphasized the role of education and research in driving innovation-driven growth and economic sustainability in Kenya.
