India has triumphed over South Africa by seven runs in a thrilling men’s T20 World Cup final, marking the end of a 13-year wait for the cricket-obsessed nation since its last World Cup victory.
Held in Bridgetown, Barbados, India posted a formidable total of 177 – the highest ever score in a men’s T20 final. South Africa, however, was up to the challenge, staying neck-and-neck with India and even taking the lead at times. The match was ultimately decided by some stellar bowling from India and an incredible catch by Suryakumar Yadav, which stifled the Proteas’ chase in the final moments.
The victory ignited jubilant and emotional celebrations for India, especially poignant after a year filled with heartbreaks where many of its players experienced losses to Australia in the finals of both the ODI Cricket World Cup and the World Test Championship.
