NCIC Summons Daadab MP Hon. Farah Maalim Over Controversial Utterances

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned Daadab Member of Parliament, Hon. Farah Maalim, to appear before the Commission on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. The session will be held at the NCIC offices located on the 17th Floor of Britam Tower, Hospital Road, Upper Hill, Nairobi.

The summons is in accordance with Section 27 of the National Cohesion and Integration Act No. 12 of 2008. The Commission is investigating remarks made by the MP in the Somali language concerning the Gen Z demonstrations against the Finance Bill 2024. These utterances are believed to potentially incite feelings of contempt, hatred, hostility, violence, or discrimination, thus affecting harmonious coexistence among different political groups in Kenya. This is in violation of Section 13 (1) (a) of the NCI Act.

Hon. Farah Maalim is expected to assist with the ongoing investigations. The NCIC has emphasized the importance of the MP’s attendance, stating that failure to appear at the specified date, time, and location constitutes an offense under Section 63 (c) as read with Section 63 (e) of the NCI Act.
