Nyandarua County Community Health Promoters Strike Over Unpaid Dues

Community Health Promoters (CHP) in Nyandarua County have gone on strike over unpaid dues that have been outstanding for the past eight months.

On Monday, 1,372 CHPs marched from JM County Referral Hospital to Governor Kiarie Badilisha’s office to protest the non-payment of their stipends. Despite their efforts, they were unable to secure a meeting with any county officials to address their grievances.

The CHPs noted that while the National Government’s stipends of KSh 2,500 have been consistently paid into their bank accounts without delay, the county government has failed to honor its financial commitments. The CHPs accused the county executive of humiliating them despite their dedication to providing essential health services, often involving long-distance travel to reach residents.

The protestors vowed to continue their demonstrations every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday until Governor Kiarie Badilisha pays their dues in full.
