Mukunji Condemns Looting During Anti-Government Protests

Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji has condemned acts of looting and vandalism of property that have characterized the anti-government protest in Embu.

The protest has a left a wave of destruction since commencement three weeks ago with the MP saying they have only served to do more harm than good.

The protests have left business owners counting losses running into millions of shillings whereas several public infrastructures have been destroyed including Governor’s, KRA and UDA offices.

Speaking to residents of Embu Town that has been the epicenter of the protests on Wednesday, Mukunji called for the protests to cease immediately to cub the widespread wave the destruction.

He said what started as peaceful demonstrations had taken the wrong turn after criminals infiltrated the protests.

The MP accused those behind looting and destruction of property of being enemies of progress, saying they were doing more harm to business owners that even the finance bill they were pushing to be withdrawn.

He said the issues raised by the Gen Zs that led to the protest had been addressed including withdrawal of the contentious Finance Bill and disbandment of the cabinet and so there was no reason to continue holding protests.
