Atwoli Criticizes Gachagua for Remarks Against NIS DG Haji

The Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General, Francis Atwoli, has strongly criticized Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for his recent remarks against the National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General Noordin Haji.

Addressing residents in Kitui County, Atwoli urged Gachagya to focus on assisting President William Ruto in reconciling the nation rather than creating discord.

Atwoli’s comments came in response to a press conference held by Gachagua on Wednesday evening, where he called for the resignation of the NIS Director, accusing him of misguiding the President regarding the Gen Z protests.

“The government must speak with one voice,” Atwoli asserted. “If someone can reach the Deputy President, tell him to act responsibly and support the President for the unity this country requires. We don’t want two national press conferences. We need only one spokesperson for the nation.”

Atwoli condemned Gachagua’s rhetoric as unbecoming of a Deputy President, urging him to stop attacking government officials and agitating for the opinions of a few individuals. He emphasized the need for national development and unity, advocating for a governance approach that benefits all Kenyans.

“We are all Kenyans, and we need to develop as a country and as a nation,” Atwoli continued. “One man, one shilling, one vote. It will not bode well for many parts of this country if we continue on this path.”

Atwoli’s statements reflect growing concerns over internal conflicts within the government and highlight the need for cohesive and unified leadership to address the country’s pressing issues.
