Chaos Erupts at Funeral of Magdalene Kalembe, Widow of Former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile

Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse

Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse was whisked away after chaos erupted during the burial of Magdalene Kalembe, the widow of former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile. Magdalene, who passed away a week ago following a short illness, was a Makueni MCA nominated by the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party.

Trouble began with murmurs demanding that the MP apologize for supporting the Finance Bill, 2024. Mutuse chose not to discuss politics at the funeral, which was dominated by allies of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

Despite his stance, a clash ensued between goons associated with Mutuse and those allied with various Wiper politicians. Mr. Ndile’s orphans wailed hysterically as the skirmish unfolded. The MP was eventually escorted away by goons and police as clerics protected the casket.

“We expected him to apologize for going against our wishes to support the proposed increase of taxes. We shall not relent,” explained Urbanus Wambua, a Wiper nominated MCA in the Makueni County Assembly.

Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior condemned the skirmishes and apologized to the bereaved family, while his predecessor, Kivutha Kibwana, rallied politicians in the region behind the youthful anti-tax protests.
