The East African Cables PLC announces the passing of its esteemed Board Chairman, Dr. Michael Waweru that occurred on on July 5, 2024.
Waweru had served as the Board Chairman for seven years, having been appointed to the position in June 2017.
He is celebrated as a visionary leader whose unwavering dedication and insightful guidance played a pivotal role in the company’s success. His pioneering spirit and commitment to excellence helped lay a solid foundation for East African Cables’ growth and development. Throughout his tenure, Dr. Waweru made immeasurable contributions, particularly in strengthening the company’s systems and structures.
Before his tenure at EA Cables, Waweru served as the Commissioner General of the Kenya Revenue Authority from 2003 to 2012. During this period, he was recognized for his transformative leadership and was awarded the Chief Order of the Burning Spear by President Mwai Kibaki for his impressive achievements in tax collection.
Waweru was also one of the founding members of TransCentury PLC and played a crucial role in various other fields, steering numerous organizations toward success. In recognition of his remarkable contributions to both the public and private sectors, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by KCA University in 2022.
He will be remembered for his wit, charisma, and ability to engage and inspire those around him, even during challenging times.
