Kenya recently hosted the International Telecoms Week (ITW) and DataCloud Summit at the Radisson Blu Hotel, marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital landscape. The event, which took place last week, attracted over 3,000 delegates and featured more than 150 influential speakers from around the globe.
The ITW Africa 2023 conference, held in Nairobi, was a notable success, drawing over 800 participants from 57 countries. Earlier this year, the conference was nominated for the Best New Conference Award at the CGN’s Conference and Events Awards, highlighting its impact and significance in the sector.
During the official opening ceremony, Dr. Margaret Ndung’u, Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy (MICDE), emphasized Kenya’s role as a regional leader in digital innovation and connectivity. She stated, “Kenya is building a Regional Connectivity Hub for East Africa and beyond by leveraging the nation’s strategic location, investing in robust digital infrastructure, and implementing progressive policy frameworks.”
Dr. Ndung’u underscored the importance of ITW in uniting global ICT industry players to unlock new growth opportunities across Africa.
Eng. John Tanui, Principal Secretary for the State Department for ICT and the Digital Economy, highlighted the significance of hosting ITW 2024. He noted that the event presents a prime opportunity for international investors to explore investment opportunities within Kenya’s expanding digital sector. “With 93 percent renewable energy, Kenya is an ideal destination for sector players focused on sustainability,” Tanui said.
The ITW 2024 Conference, themed “Accelerating Connectivity in Africa,” aims to foster networking among key figures from the tech industry and discuss strategies to advance the digital ecosystem. Chris Davison, ITW Product Manager, remarked that the conference serves as a vital platform for connecting industry leaders and exploring innovative solutions for future global communications.
Notable attendees included TECHORACO CEO Ms. Rose Irving, ICT Authority CEO Mr. Stanley Kamanguya, and ITW Managing Director Ms. Annabel Helm, among other industry leaders. The event not only showcased Kenya’s growing digital infrastructure but also reinforced its position as a hub for global telecommunications and digital innovation.
