Kwale Community Condemns Planned Demonstrations

Business owners, community leaders, and residents of Kwale have condemned the planned demonstrations expected to take place today, warning that they could disrupt peace and harm local businesses.

Representatives from various sectors, including hoteliers, bar and restaurant owners, garage businesses, boda boda and tuktuk operators, the South Coast Residents Association, SMEs, tours and travel owners, and clergymen, have voiced their concerns.

Richard Onsongo, Chairman of the Bar and Restaurant Owners Association, acknowledged the right to demonstrate but urged Gen Z to do so peacefully.

George Mokaya, Chairman of the South Coast Residents Association, emphasized that demonstrations disrupt peace and lead to business losses.

Leopard Beach Hotel Manager Kioko Musyoki noted that the tourism sector is particularly vulnerable, as tourists avoid areas with unrest, threatening the industry in Diani, a major tourist hub.

The community collectively urged the youth to consider the future and conduct peaceful demonstrations to protect Kwale’s peace and economy.
