Meru Senator Murungi Tells UDA Secretary General to Keep Off Meru Politics

Kathuri Murungi

Meru Senator and Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Kathuri Murungi, has firmly told off UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala, urging him to stay out of Meru’s political affairs. This declaration follows Malala’s recent intervention, where he wrote a letter to Mrs. Zipporah Kinya, demanding the immediate withdrawal of the impeachment motion against Governor Kawira Mwangaza, citing the interest of party cohesion and stability.

Senator Murungi asserted that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has no authority to interfere with the county assembly’s business, which is governed by the constitution and standing orders. He emphasized that Malala’s actions were inappropriate and revealed a lack of genuine party interest.

“The party has no mandate to control the county assembly’s business,” said Senator Murungi. “We are guided by the constitution and standing orders. Cleophas Malala has shown that he does not have the party’s best interests at heart. We will consider replacing him with someone more suitable for the position.”

This strong stance highlights ongoing tensions within the UDA and underscores the importance of adhering to constitutional governance in county matters. The situation remains dynamic, with potential implications for both the party’s internal cohesion and the broader political landscape in Meru.
