Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has affirmed that the Mt. Kenya region is not lacking in qualified leaders for national representation.
Speaking in Mwea during the distribution of socio-economic empowerment items, Waiguru emphasized that leadership in the region is based on proven track records, not individual dominance. She also reiterated the region’s support for President William Ruto’s development agenda.
The governor’s remarks come amid rising political tension in the region, as 48 MPs from Mt. Kenya and the diaspora recently endorsed Interior CS Kithure Kindiki as their link to the Executive, sidelining Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. This development, seen as a major blow to Gachagua’s influence, has intensified the political rivalry between the two leaders ahead of the 2027 elections.
Waiguru also distributed 1,000 plastic chairs, eight tents, 33 fish pond liners, and 350 UPVC water pipes to assist 3,000 members of the Gathigiriri Water Project in improving irrigation.
