The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has confirmed that there will be no internet shutdown on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, coinciding with the protests against the Finance Bill 2024.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Authority has no intention whatsoever to shut down internet traffic or interfere with the quality of connectivity,” stated CA CEO David Mugonyi. “Such actions would be a betrayal of the Constitution as a whole, the freedom of expression in particular, and our own ethos.”
Earlier today, there were rumours online about an impending internet blackout. Additionally, an alleged screenshot surfaced showing legislators calling for a shutdown.
Mugonyi emphasized that any interference with the internet would sabotage the fast-growing digital economy and livelihoods.
He urged Kenyans to use the digital space respectfully and within the confines of the law.
