Protests under the banner of “Occupy Everywhere” sweep through major cities across Kenya today, including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Nakuru, as citizens voice their discontent over economic policies and governance issues.

While smaller in scale compared to previous demonstrations dubbed #RejectFinanceBill2024, law enforcement is seen engaging protesters. Similarly, the protests have so far been infiltrated by goons and thieves.

The unrest follows last week’s significant public outcry which led President William Ruto to withhold assent on the controversial Finance Bill 2024, perceived by many Kenyans as exacerbating their economic burdens.

Early this week, religious leaders urged demonstrators to maintain peace and refrain from causing damage to property and businesses. Their call echoed amidst appeals from the political class, urging patience as they called upon President Ruto to address systemic issues like corruption and economic inequality.

As the nation navigates through these turbulent times, all eyes are on President Ruto’s next steps and whether they will satisfy the demands of the protesting masses.
