President William Ruto is currently presiding over a Cabinet meeting at State House, Nairobi.

According to Statehouse Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed, this is first Cabinet meeting Ruto has chaired since the nationwide protests against the Finance Bill 2024 began on 25th June, 2024.

The meeting follows calls from several Senators urging the President to make significant changes to his administration.

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale publicly demanded the dismissal of certain Cabinet Secretaries and the abolition of various public offices, including the Chief Administrative Secretary office and the Office of the First Lady.

Khalwale also called for the removal of the Inspector General and several presidential advisors, citing incompetence.

“I call on the President to disband the Cabinet and reconstitute it afresh. Do away with the Chief Administrative Secretary office and office of the First Lady. Do away with other unnecessary public offices and also fire the Inspector General and presidential advisors for incompetence,” said Senator Khalwale.

In response to the public outcry, President Ruto last week refused to sign the Finance Bill 2024, indicating his administration’s willingness to listen to the concerns of the citizens. The outcome of the ongoing Cabinet meeting is eagerly awaited as the country navigates through this period of political and economic tension.
