President William Ruto is set to sign the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Amendment Bill, 2024, into law tomorrow.
This move comes in response to the demands of Gen Z protesters, who have been calling for greater accountability and the recall of underperforming members of parliament.
The Bill will also address concerns in constituencies that have been without legislators, such as Banissa Constituency, which fell vacant following the death of MP Kulow Hassan more than 12 months ago.
The IEBC Amendment Bill, 2024, seeks to introduce pivotal reforms aimed at refining the operational framework of the IEBC. The proposed amendments emphasize the necessity for enhanced transparency, efficiency, and accountability within the Commission’s processes, marking a significant step towards improved governance and electoral integrity in Kenya.
