Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza impeached for the third time

Governor Kawira Mwangaza has been impeached for the third time on charges of abuse of office, gross misconduct and gross violation of the Constitution and other laws. 40 out of 69 members of the county assembly voted in favour of the impeachment motion tabled by Deputy Majority Party Leader Zipporah Kinya, meeting the two-thirds threshold. Another 17 voted against the impeachment motion, while three did not vote.

Meru County Refutes Controller of Budget Report on Foreign Travel Expenditure

The Meru County government has strongly denied a recent report by the Office of the Controller of Budget claiming that it spent Ksh. 1 billion on foreign travels within nine months up to March 2024. In a media briefing held at the Meru County government headquarters today, Ibrahim Mutwiri, the County Executive Committee Member for Finance, clarified that the actual expenditure on foreign travel during that period was Ksh. 43.75 million, not Ksh. 1 billion as reported.
