Calm slowly returns along Samburu Baringo border

The government has restored peace and calm in the volatile 68-kilometer Malaso-Morijo belt along the border of Samburu and Baringo Counties following rampant cattle rustling in the last one year. Samburu County Commissioner (CC) John Cheruiyot said that a multi-agency security operation has seen the reduction of cattle rustling incidences between communities from the two counties that often left a trail of death and destruction. Five Dead, Including Police Officer, After Bandit Attack in Meru County

Five people, including a police officer, have been confirmed dead and several others injured following a violent exchange of gunfire between herders and bandits in Kilenda area, Nkandone Sub-location, Naathu location, Meru County. The attack occurred yesterday evening when around 40 heavily armed Samburu bandits targeted herders grazing their livestock. The intense gunfire lasted for five hours, ultimately forcing the police officers to withdraw at dusk. The bandits managed to steal 159 livestock during the assault.
