IAEA Completes Safety Review of Koeberg Nuclear Power Plant

An International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) team of experts concluded a comprehensive review of the Koeberg Nuclear Power Plant's long-term operational safety today. This Safety Aspects of Long Term Operation (SALTO) follow-up mission, conducted from September 3 to 6, was requested by Eskom, the plant's operator. Koeberg, located about 30 kilometers north of Cape Town, South Africa, is the continent’s only commercial nuclear power station. The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Basic Education, Ms Joy Maimela, has noted with shock the death of several learners in Gauteng yesterday.
