Grief and shock have engulfed Mukuru village in Ntulele area, Narok East Sub County, after the bodies of two male adults were found floating in a seasonal river. The tragic incident has left the community in mourning.
Narok County Police Commander Riko Ngare confirmed the incident, stating that the two victims, identified as Stanley Korir, 50, a boda boda rider, and Jared Kahuhia, 52, a passenger, were riding a motorbike when they fell into a deep valley while attempting to cross a man-made bridge.
“They were last seen at around 9pm last night. It is suspected that the motorbike slipped while crossing the bridge and fell into the valley, which is about 20 feet deep and 10 feet wide,” Commander Ngare said.
He explained that the motorcycle landed on the victims, causing them to lose consciousness and succumb to internal injuries due to the impact. The tragedy is believed to have occurred when Kahuhia was returning from attending his sister’s burial in the area.
The bodies have been moved to Narok County Referral Hospital morgue for preservation, awaiting autopsy.
The incident follows another tragic event that occurred barely a week earlier, where two brothers from the same village died in a road accident while riding a bike in Pinyinyi area along the Narok-Maai Mahiu highway.
In light of these incidents, the police have urged motorists to exercise caution while traveling on roads to prevent further accidents. A recent report released by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) revealed that over 2,000 people have died in road accidents this year, underscoring the need for increased road safety measures.
The community of Mukuru village remains in mourning as they come to terms with the loss of their loved ones and the tragic circumstances surrounding their deaths.
