President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda hosted Field Marshal Berhanu Jula, Chief of the General Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Force, and Her Excellency Etsegenet Bezabih, the Ethiopian Ambassador, at State House Entebbe.
During their meeting, President Museveni discussed the historical errors committed by past Ugandan administrations and highlighted the corrective measures taken by the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
President Museveni outlined the philosophical, ideological, and strategic mistakes made by previous governments, emphasizing how the NRM has successfully addressed these issues. He detailed the shift in focus towards wealth creation initiatives at the grassroots level, aimed at alleviating poverty and improving the standard of living for the Ugandan population.
“Our administration has concentrated on rectifying past mistakes through a philosophical, ideological, and strategic approach,” President Museveni explained. “Currently, our main focus is on wealth creation initiatives that target the grassroots, ensuring that poverty is eradicated among our people.”
The meeting underscored the strong bilateral relations between Uganda and Ethiopia, with discussions likely touching on mutual interests and cooperation in various sectors. The presence of both military and diplomatic representatives from Ethiopia highlighted the comprehensive nature of the dialogue.
Field Marshal Berhanu Jula and Ambassador Bezabih expressed their appreciation for the insights shared by President Museveni and affirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to strengthening ties with Uganda. The visit is seen as a significant step in fostering regional cooperation and addressing common challenges.
The discussions at State House Entebbe reaffirmed the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving sustainable development and stability in the region.
