Uganda responds after Uganda House in Nairobi was Vandalized and Set Ablaze

Uganda House in Nairobi on fire.

The Government of Uganda has responded following the vandalism and setting a blaze of Uganda House in Nairobi, Kenya, following the anti-Finance Bill protests yesterday.

Located on Kenyatta Avenue, the six-floor Uganda House was newly refurbished and was to be opened this Friday, June 28, 2024.

So far, only the ground floor was occupied by commercial tenants, as the upper floors, including the third floor that previously housed the Consular Office, had been vacated to facilitate the renovations.

“While the damage to the property is extensive, there is some relief in knowing that no fatalities or serious injuries have been reported”, a statement by Uganda’s PS for Foreign Affairs Bagira Vincent Waiswa.

He further commended the Nairobi Fire Department for their swift response in extinguishing the blaze.

Waiswa confirmed that no diplomatic or consular staff were present in the building when the fire broke out.

He further reassured that diplomatic relations with Kenya remain strong. “We categorically state that our relations with the Government and indeed the people of the Republic of Kenya remain solid.”
